MANILA – San Miguel Beermen center June Mar Fajardo is the frontrunner in the raise for the Best Player of the Conference (BPC) trophy – and expected to bag his sixth such individual citation.
The Cebuano big man posted a whopping 44.1 statistical points built on 22.8 points, 13.2 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, 1.8 assists, and 0.6 steals averages this 2017-2018 PBA Philippine Cup.
Fajardo, a part of the Gilas Pilipinas lineup in the 2019 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, led the field in scoring and rebounding and is second in blocks behind Blackwater Elite’s John Paul Erram.
If Fajardo goes all the way to win the BPC trophy in the All-Filipino Conference, he will move past former Beerman and now Alaska Aces assistant coach Danny Ildefonso, who won the citation five times.
Teammate Arwind Santos trails right behind Fajardo in the BPC race with 37.6 SPs a game on double-double averages of 16.3 markers and 10.5 rebounds per match.
Rounding out the top five BPC award contenders are GlobalPort Batang Pier’s Stanley Pringle (35.6), Erram (35.3) and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings’ Japeth Aguilar (34.2)
Within the top 10 are Beermen’s Marcio Lassiter (32.4), Kings’ Earl Scottie Thompson (32.3), Batang Pier’s Sean Anthony (32.2), Magnolia Hotshots’ Paul Lee (31.5), and Phoenix Fuel Masters’ Matthew Wright (31.4).
Ilonggo Kiefer Ravena of NLEX Road Warriors is the Rookie of the Year award frontrunner with 27 average SPs entering the quarterfinals while Jeron Teng of Alaska Aces is behind him with 25.2 SPs./PN
