BACOLOD City – Three persons were jailed while two others escaped after police caught them selling fake herbal medicines in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
Among those who were arrested were the 61-year-old Lucy Jimula, 49-year-old Jonathan Gayamo and 43-year-old Alfred Amit, a police report showed.
Jimula, Gayamo and Amit were residents of barangays Tangub, Felisa and Mansilingan in Bacolod City, respectively.
A team from the Cadiz City police station led by Senior Police Officer 3 Jovel Bustamante and Senior Police Officer 2 Reymando Flores caught them on Sunday, the market day in Cadiz.
But the police failed to arrest Mercy Caro and Antonina Canete, also residents of Bacolod City.
The police acted upon the complaint of Dr. Eva Solis, chairwoman of CL Pito-Pito Herbal Corp.
Recovered from the suspects were 10 boxes containing 158 bottles of fake herbal medicines, the report stated.
The police also impounded an Isuzu van that the suspects used.
All the five suspects were charged for violation of Republic Act 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines./PN
