Families of sacadas get cash aid

ANTIQUE – A total of 142 families of migrant sugarcane workers or sacadas from this province received financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the provincial government of Antique.

The cash assistance totaling P284,000 will be used to purchase the beneficiaries’ needs while their husbands or brothers are working as sacadas in Negros Occidental.

One of Gov. Rhodora Cadiao’s programs is to help improve the livelihood of the sacadas as well as their families.

Months ago, the governor also provided livelihood assistance such as sari-sari store, and distributed piglets and cattle to sacada beneficiaries.

Previously, Cadiao said sacadas accredited by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) are now members of the Social Security System (SSS)./PN
