Family of 3 dead, 3 others injured in road mishap

ILOILO – A 10-wheeler truck crashed into a tricycle in Barangay Dawis, New Lucena, Iloilo on Friday. Three members of a family died while three others were injured.

The incident happened at about 3:45 a.m. All the victims were thrown out of the tricycle.

The casualties were Angelito Somblingo, 33;  Angelo Somblingo, 12; and Lance Somblingo, 11, all residents of Barangay Barasan Este, Santa Barbara, Iloilo.

The injured, on the other hand, were Hilda Somblingo, 48, and Mark Somblingo, 20. They were taken to the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan town.

The other injured person, Reymechian Gedoria, 10, of Barangay Gemumua-Agahon, Passi City, Iloilo was confined at the Metro Iloilo Hospital and Medical Center in Jaro, Iloilo City.

According to New Lucena police chief, Lieutenant Jerson Baldevia, the 10-wheeler truck driver was Jimmy Ramos, 37, of Barangay Imbang, Grande, Passi City.

“Medyo madasig ang dalagan sang truck, amo to nga nagtalalabog mga pasahero sang tricycle,” Baldevia said.

The tricycle was about to turn left at the crossing when hit by the truck.

Ramos was detained at the New Lucena police station. He faces a charge for reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and frustrated homicide.

“Damo aksidente dira sa crossing, accident-prone area. We call on motorists to slow down upon reaching the area,” said Baldevia./PN
