ILOILO City – A farmer was arrested on Friday, Feb. 9, in Barangay San Andres, San Rafael, Iloilo for owning an unlicensed firearm.
The 47-year-old suspect, identified as Gerry Jarquio, was taken to the San Rafael Police Station following the seizure of a .38 revolver with ammunition.
San Rafael police personnel entered the house of the suspect at approximately 6:02 a.m., armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Jose Mauricio Gomez of the Regional Trial Court 6, Branch 71, in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.
According to police chief Captain Bryan Alejo, they received reports that the suspect was involved in gun-toting.
“He claimed that the gun was owned by his eldest son, who was already dead, but he failed to show the gun’s permit; that’s why we arrested him,” Alejo said.
He will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 or illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm./PN
