BACOLOD City– Lone District representative Greg Gasataya met with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) last week after the delay in the construction of school buildings for Negros Occidental High School.
Gasataya complained about the overdue construction of the two buildings which should have been completed by Dec. 26 last year.
Assistant District Engineer Leah Jamero, public information officer of the city’s District Engineering Office, said the contractors failed to finish the buildings on time.
Supreme ABF Construction and Construction Supply Company Inc. and Trimluv Builders and Supply, the joint contractors, were reminded several times by the DPWH to fast-track the construction, Jamero said.
“If there are problems with the contractors, it is not fitting for us to wait because classes are ongoing and there is a lack of school buildings,” Gasataya said.
Each 4-storey building is composed of 20 classrooms.
Gasataya requested DPWH to furnish a report that will explain the reason behind the delay. He also asked the agency for actions to be taken to address the contractors’ poor performance.
Jamero told Gasataya that DPWH can blacklist the contractor for them not to be qualified as bidder for government projects.
Jamero also said several notices have been doled out to the contractors. Due to the delay of construction, the remaining work is subject to “liquidated damages.”
Should the constructions not be completed immediately, DPWH will terminate the contract, Jamero added./PN
