Fatal stabbing at Oton public plaza

ILOILO City – Police were still trying to determine the motive in the fatal stabbing of a 26-year-old resident of Oton, Iloilo.

Philip Caso of Barangay San Nicolas, Oton was found dead at the town’s public plaza on Saturday evening.

He and a 21-year-old friend, Rustom Ticao of the same village, were walking at the plaza when attacked at around 7:50 p.m., said Chief Inspector Gervinson Moyo, Oton municipal police chief.

A group of six to eight unidentified men approached them. A commotion ensued among them, and then Caso was stabbed on the stomach and the back, police said, citing witnesses.

Ticao tried to escape but the attackers ran after him and beat him up, police added.

“Fortunately for him, Ticao was not stabbed,” Moyo told Panay News.

A butterfly knife was used in stabbing Caso. Police found the weapon still stuck on the victim’s back.

Caso was taken to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district here where he was pronounced dead.

The Oton municipal police station have yet to identify any of the suspects as of this writing./PN
