ILOILO City – Will the people of Santa Barbara forgive Rt. Rev. Msgr. Juanito Ma. Tuvilla? Or will they pursue their petition to oust him as parish priest of the town?
The consensus remains to be known as the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) of Santa Barbara has yet to initiate consultations with their constituents.
“As of now, most of the barangay captains are supporting the petition,” said Rolly Sorongon, barangay captain of Dalid.
Sorongon was reacting to the plan of the Archdiocese of Jaro to reconcile Tuvilla and the bereaved family he had publicly berated during a burial mass on July 19.
Sorongon said he also received information from a fellow barangay captain that Tuvilla appeared sorry.
The informant said Tuvilla celebrated mass in one of the barangays of Santa Barbara over the weekend and shed tears while commenting about the complaint against him.
Asked if they were willing to give him a chance upon mediation by the Archdiocese, Sorongon replied positively but said he was leaving the decision to the people.
“Gusto man namon mabal-an kon nga-a ga-amo na sia. Kay sobra-sobra iya pagka-strikto (We want to know why he’s like that. His being exacting has become too much,” Sorongon said.
On July 20 after the incident with one family, Tuvilla berated the people of Barangay Dalid as carabao thieves.
This angered the barangay council of Dalid./PN
