FDA reminds public vs buying from unregistered sellers

THE Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday reminded the public to be wary of health products being sold both online and in physical stores, as some sellers may be distributing either counterfeit or useless products.

There are at least 29,000 registered drugs stores in the country, but the FDA does not have exact figures on the number of illegal sellers in the country.

“We regulate the drugstores and the products but not the doctors themselves,” Sevilla said.

Those caught selling unregistered or counterfeit health, drug or cosmetic items may either be slapped with a fine ranging from P50,000 to P500,000 or imprisoned from between 12 months and 10 years, she said. (ABS-CBN News)
