Feb. 19 declared special non-working day in Bago City

BACOLOD City – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared February 19 a special non-working day in Bago City, Negros Occidental.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed Proclamation No. 780 on January 23, 2025 declaring the said date a special holiday in celebration of the city’s 59th Charter Anniversary.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of Bago City be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” Bersamin said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Nicholas Yulo on January 17 issued Executive Order (EO) No. 09 that regulates night gatherings in the city as a precautionary step to protect public safety citing the potential escalation of Mt. Kanlaon’s alert status to Level 4.

Also, as part of the city’s 59th Charter Anniversary celebrations scheduled from February 5 to 19, activities will be scaled down due to the volcano threat.

Barangay fiestas are likewise under scrutiny, with residents encouraged to limit nighttime festivities.

The EO further stated that such events typically attract large crowds, raising the risk of mass casualties and logistical complications in the event of a volcanic eruption or related hazards like pyroclastic flows and ashfall./PN
