Federal charter draft online unofficial – ConCom

MANILA – A copy of the draft federal charter currently circulating online was unofficial, the committee tasked to amend the Constitution said on Wednesday.

The “leaked” draft, dated June 27 and June 30, did not contain corrections made during the June 28 en banc meeting of the Consultative Committee (ConCom) and other details changed on July 1 and 2, said ConCom spokesman Ding Generoso.

“There were still some corrections that the members suggested on the morning of July 3 before the voting took place,” Generoso said.

He claimed that the leaked draft was the “working file,” or the consolidation of the different articles that had been undergoing daily corrections as the sessions were being held.

There were corrections made in terms of style, grammar, sentence construction, punctuation marks, redundancies, and possible conflicts with other sections, said Generoso.

He pointed out that the provisions had to be compared with the 1987 Constitution to ensure that all provisions to be retained were actually maintained in the draft.

On Tuesday the ConCom unanimously voted to approve the draft federal constitution.

The panel was not releasing a copy to press until after it has submitted it to President Rodrigo Duterte on July 9.

Malacañang said Duterte will endorse the draft federal constitution to Congress, which may either affirm or reject it. (PNA)
