ILOILO City – The fastcraft company will bear the burial costs of its apprentice who drowned in Barangay Libertad, Lapuz district on Thursday, June 1.

Sammy Bryle Gonzales, 22, of Zone 6, Sapabongga, Zamboanga City, died saving his two companions.

Ferry captain Edgar Fidel told Panay News the apprentices have been in-house with them for one year.

“The company will shoulder the expenses. As of now, nag-process na sila para bayaran ang St. Paul’s [Hospital], and natawagan na rin namin ang funeral homes to arrange the body, and then dadalhin siya supposed to be by air from Iloilo to Manila and Manila to Zamboanga,” said Fidel.

The captain said the fastcraft was undergoing maintenance when the incident happened.

The apprentices were graduating students of Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering program at the Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University.

“This is the first time na may nangyaring ganito. Masakit rin sa amin kasi nagkakasama na kami dito.” added Fidel.
