FEU edges DLSU in UAAP football

MANILA – Far Eastern University Tamaraws tightened its hold on the top spot of the UAAP Season 81 men’s football after fashioning out a 2-1 win over De La Salle University Green Archers on Sunday at the FEU-Diliman pitch.

Nikki Canonigo came up with the go-ahead goal at the 83rd minute as the Tamaraws ended the first round of eliminations on top and undefeated with 15 points on four wins and three draws.

The Tamaraws quickly scored in the opening minute courtesy of Kim Minsu’s strike before Alfonso Montelibano responded with an equalizer for the Green Archers in the 22nd minute.

Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles and defending champion University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, meanwhile, forced a three-way tie in second place after scoring separate wins.

Rupert Baña scored twice while Mark Nacional and Martin Ordoñez also entered the scoresheet as the Blue Eagles cruised to a 4-0 annihilation on National University Bulldogs.

King Miyagi, meanwhile, came up with a go-ahead strike in stoppage time as the Fighting Maroons scored a 2-1 victory over the slumping University of the East Red Warriors.

 

Blue Eagles and Fighting Maroons are now level with University of Santo Tomas with 10 points. Green Archers is at fifth with nine points, while the Red Warriors and the Bulldogs stayed at seven and five points, respectively./PN
