MANILA – Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws moved closer to sealing a final four slot in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball after a 25-21, 25-19, 25-22 sweep over National University Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday at the San Juan Arena.
Heather Guino-o led the way with 11 points, all coming from spikes, while Jerrili Malabanan added 10 markers for the Lady Tamaraws, which moved up to solo third spot with 8-4 win-loss slate.
Kyle Negrito posted 21 excellent sets, seven excellent digs and five points, while Ilongga Ria Duremdes tallied 11 excellent digs for the Lady Tamaraws, which continued to play sans star rookie Lycha Ebon.
The Lady Tamaraws got to a strong 12-5 start in the first set but the Lady Bulldogs clawed to within 14-15. FEU was ahead 22-21 late in the set before scoring three straight points to close the set.
The Lady Tamaraws leaned on its solid blocking in the second frame for a 16-6 edge but the Lady Bulldogs came up with another rally to close the gap at 19-22 before FEU ended the set on hits from Guino-o and Czarina Carandang.
The Lady Tamaraws had another strong opening in the third to post a 16-9 edge but surrendered points to the Lady Bulldogs for a 22-all count. Guino-o and Negrito then conspired in FEU’s last three points for a straight set win.
Audrey Paran top-scored with 11 points build on 10 attacks and one block, while Ivy Lacsina contributed nine points for the Lady Bulldogs, which slumped to 2-9 win-loss card./PN
