MANILA – Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws lived to fight another day after a thrilling 10-25, 25-23, 25-22, 12-25, 15-8 win over Ateneo Lady Eagles in UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball Final Four on Saturday at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
Heather Guino-o spearheaded the attack with 17 points, on eight kills, four kill blocks and five aces, for the Lady Tamaraws, which forced a do-or-die game with the Lady Eagles on Wednesday.
Jeannette Villareal added 10 markers including eight from spikes while Jerrili Malabanan and rookie France Ronquillo contributed eight and seven markers, respectively, for FEU.
“Hindi pa time to celebrate, marami pa kaming mga bagay na ifi-fix for Game 2 kasi I’m sure sa Game 2 ibang team ang makikita namin both team. Ibang intense na laro,” said Lady Tamaraws head coach George Pascua.
The Lady Tams broke from a 7-7 deadlock in the fifth set with a 6-0 scoring run, capped by a Malabanan hit for a 13-7 advantage. Madeleine Madayag stopped the bleeding for the Lady Eagles with a kill block on Malabanan.
Lady Eagles, however, was unable to muster consecutive points as Bea De Leon was called for four touches before Jules Samonte sent her attack long that served as the final nail in the coffin for Ateneo.
Kat Tolentino finished with 21 points coming off 17 kills, three kill blocks and an ace while De Leon and Madayag contributed 16 and 13 markers, respectively, for the Lady Eagles./PN
