FEU Tams turn back Adamson, 3-1, in UAAP football

MANILA – Far Eastern University Tamaraws cruised to a 3-1 victory over Adamson University Falcons in the UAAP Season 81 men’s football tournament on Thursday at the FEU-Diliman pitch.

Nikki Canonigo slotted it home from a Poi Saldivar cross in the 43rd minute to put the Tamaraws ahead. Saldivar then scored off a counter attack to double the Tamaraws’ lead early in the second half.

The Falcons cut the deficit in the 57th minute as Allen Lozano’s corner kick went straight to the net, before the Tamaraws regained the two-goal edge when Alex Rayos scored from a Gio Pabualan corner in the 73rd minute.

In other fixtures, defending champion University of the Philippines Maroons rallied from a goal down to oust National University Bulldogs, 4-1, while De La Salle University Green Archers toppled University of the East Red Warriors, 2-0.

The Bulldogs gained a 1-0 edge early in the second half on a conversion by Ivan Ouano but the Fighting Maroons was quick to level the count on a goal from Vince Parpan before taking the edge with Dane Saavedra’s penalty.

The Fighting Maroons took the fight away from the Bulldogs for good since then with insurance goals by JB Borlongan and John Abraham late in the match.

For the Green Archers, it was the rookies who delivered the goods as John Rhey Lagura struck in the 76th minute and Jovan Marfiga added another in stoppage time./PN
