MANILA – A successful separation in the second half by Gilas Pilipinas from Indonesia pulled off an astounding 100-70 thrashing in the FIBA (International Basketball Federation) Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers at the Britama Arena in Jakarta, Indonesia last night.
Possessing a slim 37-34 advantage, Ilonggos Ferdinand “Thirdy” Ravena III and Kiefer Ravena, with Roger Pogoy connived on offense for Gilas to lead by 10 at 50-40.
The Indonesians, however, minded the gap for the last time at 51-55, but five straight conversions by Thirdy, followed by Pogoy and Juan Gomez de Liaño soared the Philippine team to a 67-51 edge.
Gilas Pilipinas said goodnight in the payoff period with Pogoy and CJ Perez converting from outside and inside perimeters to balloon the lead to its largest at 94-62 via De Liaño’s basket.
The younger Ilonggo, Thirdy, finished the match with 23 points, including three outside conversions, while Pogoy – did most of his crime in the final quarter – ended up with 16 markers for the Philippines.
Perez also made his presence felt in the payoff period to end up with 11 markers, while the older Ilonggo, Kiefer, and De Liaño chipped in with 10 points apiece for the victors.
Andakara Prastawa Dhyaksa tallied 28 points, whie Abraham Damar Grahita added 17 markers for Indonesia, which played without naturalized player Lester Prosper./PN
