MANILA – Another former Busmen is set to return to Ceres-Negros FC with the signing of Joshua Grommen ahead of the 2020 Asian Football Confederation Champions League qualifying round this month.

The Filipino-Australian defender has agreed to a one-year deal with the Negros Occidental-based football club following his stint with the Sukhothai FC in the Thai Football League last year.

This will be Grommen’s second stint with the Busmen after playing for the team from 2017-2018.

He also previously played for the Loyola Meralco Sparks FC, Stallion Laguna FC, and Davao Aguilas FC.

In an interview with FTBL, Grommen admitted to considering to re-sign with Thailand but ended up returning to Ceres-Negros as he hopes to get more exposure in Asia with the Busmen’s stints in the qualifying rounds for the Asian Champions League.

“All being well, this could make for the perfect springboard to bigger and better things for the seasons to come. I have played for Ceres-Negros FC three years ago where we won the AFC Cup, so I feel a bit like home at the club,” Grommen said.

He added: “This decision has been purely based on football. The opportunities elsewhere were more lucrative, however I’m young and football and opportunities are more important than money.”

The 23-year-old Grommen was the fourth acquisition of Ceres-Negros this offseason aside from returning midfielder Arnie Pasinabo, striker Mark Hartmann and Filipino-Japanese winger Hikaru Minegishi./PN
