THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) reminded taxpayers to file and pay their Annual Income Tax Returns (AITR) five days before the April 15 deadline.

“With the incoming deadline for the filing of payment of the 2023 Annual Income Tax Returns, let us emphasize the importance of timely and accurate obligation which will be very crucial for our country’s progress,” BIR Operations Group Deputy Commissioner Maridur Rosario said in an advisory.

The BIR said taxpayers should file their 2023 AITRs electronically through eBIRForms or eFPS downloadable through the BIR website.

Manual filing may be allowed if electronic platforms are unavailable or inaccessible.

Income tax payments can be done electronically through electronic payment (ePAy) platforms or manually through Authorized Agent Banks or in Revenue District Offices.

“No Payment AITRs” will also have to be filed electronically.

However, manual filing of AITR can be an option for the following taxpayers:

* senior citizens or persons with disabilities filing their own returns;

* employees deriving purely compensation income from two or more employers, concurrently or successively at any time during the taxable year, or from a single employer, although the income of which has been correctly subjected to withholding tax, but whose spouse is not entitled to substituted filing; and

* employees qualified for substituted filing but opted to file for an ITR and are filing for purposes of promotions, loans, scholarships and foreign travel requirements, among others.

Social media influencer and entrepreneur Rosmar Tan encouraged fellow taxpayers to file returns before the deadline.

“Avoid the rush. File and pay your annual income tax return on or before April 15, 2024,” Tan said.

The BIR has set its collection target P3 trillion for 2024. (ABS-CBN News)
