MANILA – Shih Hsin University Tigers, behind the solid efforts of Filipina Jack Danielle Animam, finished as the top seed in the 2020-21 University Basketball Alliance (UBA) with 76-54 win over Chinese Culture University on Monday evening at the Taipei Gymnasium.
The former National University Lady Bulldogs star had a double-double showing with 14 points and 18 rebounds. She also contributed four steals, three blocks, and two assists for the Tigers.
With her continued impressive numbers for the Tigers, the former University Athletic Association of the Philippines’ Most Valuable Player (MVP) awardee was also in the conversation for the UBA MVP citation, which Animam chose to shrug off.
“Actually, going here wala sa isip ko ‘yung individual awards na gusto ko mag MVP. Wala talaga ‘yun sa isip ko as in,” Animam said. “’Yung game ko gusto ko pa mag-improve, gusto ko ma-experience paano ‘yung laro dito sa Taiwan.”
Li Yinchen added 13 markers, including three triples; Lin Die contributed 10 markers while Li Yingjie and Su Jiaxian added nine markers apiece as the Tigers completed a five-game sweep of the second round to enter the Final Four as number one seed.
Following a below par outing in their close 64-59 triumph against National Taiwan Normal University on Sunday night, the Tigers did a scoring spree against the Chinese Culture University.
The defending champions Tigers set the tone in the opening quarter behind Animam and Li before continuing the onslaught in the second period as they established a 39-24 halftime edge.
The Chinese Culture University tried its best to come close in the second half but the Tigers always have response from Animam, Li, and Su as the lead grew further late in the final quarter.
Rookies Wang Yueti and Zheng Huici carried the fight for the struggling Chinese Culture University with 12 and 11 markers, respectively.
