MANILA – Filipino mixed martial arts fighter Geje Eustaquio cruised to a unanimous decision win over South Korean Song Min Jong in the ONE: Inside the Matrix III card at the Singapore Indoor Stadium recently.

Eustaquio, a standout from the Baguio City-based Team Lakay, had a vintage showing as put on a striking clinic when he dominated Song with a showcase of sharp counterstrikes.

Song attempted to employ his grappling, but Eustaquio used his experience to escape a ground battle. In the end, all three judges scored the bout in favor of Eustaquio.

Meanwhile, Filipino MMA fighter and former ONE Bantamweight World Champion and current No. 1-ranked contender Kevin Belingon was not as fortunate as he suffered a second round stoppage loss to John Lineker of Brazil.

Lineker and Belingon traded their heaviest shots at the start of the match. Belingon dazzled with his usual display of flashy spinning attacks and powerful combinations, while Lineker kept tight pressure and battered the Filipino with hooks and uppercuts.

In the middle of the second round, a right uppercut to the temple dropped Belingon, and Lineker quickly swarmed his foe to earn the technical knockout victory.

Another Filipino mixed martial arts fighter in Lito Adiwang also ended up on the losing column as he suffered a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Shooto Champion Hiroba Minowa of Japan.

Adiwang started the bout fast and caught Minowa with a deep kimura early on, but the Japanese survived before putting on a grappling showcase in the second and third rounds, establishing control over the Filipino to win on the judges’ scorecards./PN
