Filipinos touring Egypt told to be vigilant after deadly bomb attack

MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday urged Filipinos planning to visit tourist destinations in Egypt to exercise “a higher level of vigilance.”

The advisory was issued after the Philippine Embassy in Cairo reported the deaths of 3 Vietnamese tourists and the wounding of 10 others in Friday’s bomb attack in the Giza Region where the famed pyramids are located.

“The bombing, which took place in Haram district, also claimed the life of an Egyptian tour guide and wounded the driver,” said Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Sulpicio Confiado Jr.

A roadside bomb hidden in a wall exploded as the bus carrying 14 Vietnamese tourists went by.

The ambassador said the advisory also covers the estimated 5,000 Filipinos residing and working in Egypt. (ABS-CBN News)
