ILOILO City – March is National Fire Prevention Month.
At exactly noon today, fire stations across the country will simultaneously sound their horns for five minutes.
Hours before this, there will be a motorcade across this city, according to Chief Inspector Christopher Regencia, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Iloilo City fire marshal.
The “Parada sa Iisang Brigada” will be participated by fire volunteer brigades, fire safety education brigades and Iloilo City BFP fire trucks, among others.
Iloilo City BFP has 17 serviceable fire trucks.
Throughout the month, Regencia said, fire stations would be conducting a fire safety awareness campaign in the barangays.
Iloilo City has 180 barangays.
The ultimate goal of the yearly National Fire Prevention Month is to protect the public from fire hazards by educating people and making them take positive steps to secure themselves and their properties, said Regencia.
He appealed for the public’s cooperation even as he cited some problems his men frequently encounter when responding to fire calls. Among these are:
* narrow roads that slowdown responding fire trucks
* road obstructions such as parked vehicles
* lacks of water supply
Also scheduled this month are the following: “fire Olympics” (a competition among firefighters showing off their firefighting skills), fire drill, poster-making contest, and photo contest, among others./PN
