GUIMARAS – Arson investigators are yet to ascertain the cause of Wednesday’s blaze that completely gutted a P5-million worth of excavator backhoe in Barangay Mabini, Buenavista.
Two angles were initially suspected: arson and electrical deficiency, said Senior Fire Officer 2 Benjamin Rolando Jr., head of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Buenavista.
But arson may be far-fetched, according to Rolando, “kay dapat may makuha kami nga evidence nga gingamit sa pagsunog.”
The fire broke out around 7:10 p.m.
The heavy equipment was owned by Shack construction supply.
On the other hand, Police Colonel Pablito Asmod, provincial police director, discounted the possibility of the incident being New People’s Army’s (NPA) doing.
“Guimaras has no presence of NPA,” Asmod said.
The blaze also wasn’t a case of arson as “no person was seen in the area” prior the incident, he added./PN
