Fire hits Altavas high school; P15-million damage recorded

ILOILO City – Properties estimated to be worth P15 million all went up in smoke after fire struck a public high school in the municipality of Altavas, Aklan yesterday morning.

The blaze started razing the Physical Education, Health and Music building of the Altavas National School around 6 a.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Firefighters said the blaze was put under control at around 8 a.m. Almost an hour later, they declared a “fire out.” 

There were no reported casualties but school records and properties like chairs were burned in the fire.

Fire trucks from Balete and Sapi-an towns helped in putting out the fire.

As this was being written, arson investigators have yet to identify the cause and origin of the blaze./PN
