ILOILO City – Fire razed the police station in Molo district yesterday afternoon.

Captain Shella Mae Sangrines, spokesperson of the Iloilo City Police Office, said the blaze gutted the police station’s Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) office.

She said that thick smoke was first seen billowing from the WCPD office around 2:40 p.m.

The WCPD is located in the second floor near the lockup facility of the police station.

Authorities immediately vacated three inmates who are detained inside because of the thick smoke.

Sangrines said police were not able to save police uniforms, a firearm and important papers from the fire. She added that police officers on duty were out in the field for beat patrolling during the incident.

Arson investigators have yet to identify the cause and origin of the fire as of this writing./PN
