ILOILO City – Fire hit a production facility of Mandaue Foam in Barangay Maliao, Pavia, Iloilo yesterday afternoon. It luckily did not spread to its showroom/store.

The fire broke out around 2:27 p.m.

Fire Inspector Arnold Dimaano, Pavia fire marshal, described the area that the fire hit as “daw partition, daw compartment te wala siya chance maglapta.”

Workers at the production facility heard an explosion then saw fire quickly spreading, according to an employee who asked not to be identified for not having the authority to speak on the matter.

Fire trucks of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in the municipality, Federation Iloilo Fire Brigade and Iloilo Citizens Action Group responded.

At around 4:06 p.m. BFP announced that the fire had been put under control. It declared a fire out at around 5:15 p.m.

According to Dimaano, the fire may be “related to chemicals” but stressed that the investigation was still ongoing. Some firefighters complained of difficulty breathing. The smoke was dark and thick.

Dimaano also declined to estimate the damage. The BFP would wait for the report of Mandaue Foam, he stressed.

“Sila ina kabalo kun pila gid na-damage,” said Dimaano.

There were no reported injuries or death.
