KALIBO, Aklan – A fire broke out inside the Kalibo public market early morning, January 24, 2022. The cause of the fire was not known and investigations were ongoing.

Stall No. 77 owned by Bernard Lezo of Barangay Mobo, this town, was partially damaged after the blaze razed the retail merchandise at around 4 a.m.

Firefighters of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-Kalibo) and volunteers rushed to the public market to immediately contain the fire.

No adjacent stalls were affected when the fire broke out. No injury and casualty was also reported in the fire incident.

BFP said the fire was put out at 4:20 a.m. The fire department valued the initial damage at P120,000.

Fire Officer 1 Jan Ryl Magno, fire arson investigator, said they received a fire call from the market security guard that he noticed smoke in the stall.

“Nakontrol natin ang apoy na hindi kumalat sa kabilang stalls,” he added.

Magno stressed they conducted cover exposure to secure other market stalls near the burning structure and to prevent the fire from extending to another stall.

BFP-Kalibo has recorded three fire incidents in the barangays of Estancia and Tinigaw, and the Kalibo public market in Andagaw this January./PN
