ILOILO City – This city is observing the Fire Prevention Month.
Today the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) launches a series of activities aimed at promoting fire safety and awareness.
All 14 fire trucks of the Iloilo City Fire Station will simultaneously blow their horns at 12 noon, City Fire Marshal Christopher Regencia told Panay News yesterday.
“This will signal the opening of the Fire Prevention Month celebration,” said Regencia.
BFP-Iloilo City will hold a “unity walk” this morning from the Iloilo provincial capitol ground to the Treñas Building on General Macario Peralta Street.
On board their fire trucks, BFP officials and personnel will then stage a motorcade around the metro.
In addition, they will hold a lecture on fire safety among Iloilo City Hall employees, and distribute flyers reminding the public how to prevent fires, especially with the impending dry season.
A total of 631 fire incidents were recorded in the city in 2016 but these dropped to 442 the following year, BFP data showed.
Just this January and February, the BFP recorded 38 fire incidents, most of which hit electrical posts./PN
