ANTIQUE – Two senior citizens in Hamtic, Antique are currently seeking help after a fire rendered them homeless and without any personal belongings saved.
The houses of siblings Nestor Noble, 67, and Reymundo Noble, 76, in Barangay Bia-an, were totally damaged in a blaze that broke out at around 3:45 p.m. on Monday, March 11.
It is learned that Reymundo has been suffering long-term blindness due to severe measles at a young age.
According to Natividad Noble Oliveros, 65, her two older brothers first hoped that the guttering noise they heard was from a passing helicopter. But when they checked, it was the two houses made of light materials that were burning in flames.
It is alleged that Nestor did not fully extinguish the fire after he cooked earlier, around 12 noon, and the embers ignited a nearby pile of wood.
Luckily, the two siblings were outside their respective houses, hanging out with their neighbors due to the heat of the weather, when the fire broke out.
Residents reportedly had difficulty extinguishing the fire because there was no nearby source of water, such as a pump or deep well./PN
