ILOILO City – A firecracker maker was injured in a backyard factory explosion in Barangay Bonifacio, Arevalo district around 7:24 a.m. yesterday.

The 42-year-old Robin Hundag, a village resident, sustained multiple body injuries and burns.

“Daw utdon gid kuno ang tiil niya kay panit na lang ang gasugpon, naga-wilwig na. Ti, kabalo ka naman ang pulbora traidor ni, sobra pa ni kay Judas nga klase chemical. Diutay mo lang nga sala ma-ignite gid ni ya,” said firecracker factory owner Abe Sy.

Sy added that Hundag was a long-time worker of the factory.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Iloilo City, Hundag was placing gunpowder in a whistle bomb when it sparkled.

Hundag accidentally tossed it towards around 15,000 pieces of different firecrackers, resulting in the explosion, the BFP-Iloilo City added.

Residents nearby claimed hearing a loud explosion and later found Hundag covered in blood, with burns on his back, chest, thighs, and legs.

The victim was brought to the Western Visayas Medical Center./PN
