BORACAY – At least 145 firefighters and 15 fire trucks will help ensure safety during the Asean Summit meetings in this island resort.

Eight firefighting units will be on standby at billeting venues, while the rest will be detailed in mainland Malay town.

Trucks from Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) stations in Aklan; Mambusao, Capiz; the component city of Passi, Iloilo; Antique; and Guimaras, will be mobilized, said Aklan Fire Marshal Patricio Collado.

The BFP was also tasked to ensure the fire safety compliance of all venues and local establishments involved in the Asean Summit.

The 23rd Meeting of the Asean Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights will be on Feb. 13 to 15; Asean Ministerial Meeting Retreat, Feb. 19 to 21; and Asean Committee on Migrant Workers Meeting, Feb. 21 to 22.

All delegates from the regional organization will be treated to airport receptions and welcome dinners, according to Kristoffer Leo Velete, officer-in-charge of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Boracay.

Rondalla music and Ati-Atihan drumbeats will greet the guests at the Kalibo International Airport and the Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Barangay Caticlan, Malay.

“Definitely, they will also enjoy natural attractions in Boracay,” Velete said.

The DOT was tasked to lead the committee on tourism hospitality, tours, social events, and site enhancement.

The Philippines is hosting the Summit in time for the Asean’s 50th anniversary themed, “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World.” (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
