First-ever Law and Justice Run goes virtual

ILOILO – The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cebu City Chapter launched the first-ever “Law and Justice Run 2021: IBP Cebu City Virtual Run” during a virtual press conference on Thursday last week.

The virtual run was inspired by the Virtual Cebu Marathon, which celebrated the 500th year from the time when Magellan landed on the shores of Mactan in 1521 and brought Christianity to the Philippines.

The event aims to promote not just health and wellness but also law and justice.

With the virtual platform, you run your own race at your own time, place, and pace! Anyone outside Cebu City can join as long as they have registered to ibprun2021.myruntime.com. The registration period runs from June 8 to July 13, 2021.

Participants can run anywhere and anytime as long as they do it between July 15 to 21.

There will be five distances: three kilometers (km) fun run, five km, 10km, 15km, and 21km.

For the medal category, participants should run 15km. It has a cut-off time of four hours. On the other hand, the 21km has a cut-off time of six hours. The registration fee is P780.

For the non-medal category, those who wanted to join may run the five km and 10km. The registration fee costs P520.

The last one is the Fun Run/Walk Category, where participants can run up to three km. It has a registration fee of P280.

A participant must run the distance one at a time and must record it using an activity tracker or device such as Garmin, Fitbit, Nike, Strava app.

Part of the proceeds will fund the free legal aid programs of the IBP Cebu City Chapter and its Big Brother Program, a mentorship program for barristers and new lawyers.

The initial Big Brother activity will be to support barristers all over the country taking the bar this year. To follow the 1521 theme in celebration of the 500 years of Christianity, 36 barristers will receive P10,000 each.

In choosing the recipients, there will be an essay writing contest on “Why being in the legal profession is not just a job but a calling.”

The IBP Board of Governors will select the winners./PN
