BACOLOD City – The first full-size 11-a-side football pitch in Negros Island Region (NIR) located at Victorias City National High School in Victorias City, Negros Occidental was inaugurated yesterday, March 7.

Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez and Brazilian-Japanese model and footballer Daniel Matsunaga led the inauguration of the world-class Federation Internationale De Football Association (FIFA) standard football field.

Also in attendance were officials and representatives from the city, Philippine Football Federation (PFF), Negros Occidental Regional Football Association (NORFA), and Victorias City Schools Division Office.

This milestone marks a significant boost for local sports development, providing a dedicated space for aspiring football players and enthusiasts in the city, according to the city government.

Last month, the mayor signed the hall and host agreements with FIFA and Philippine Football Federation.

The Philippines will host the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup 2025, wherein the Victorias Coliseum is one of the venues.

The mayor said this historic global futsal tournament will bring together 16 top-tier national teams from six confederations across the globe from November 21 to December 7.

The Philippines automatically secures a slot for the competition as host country./PN
