ILOILO City – Five scheduled flights in Western Visayas were cancelled on Thursday, October 24, due to Tropical Storm Kristine.

According to a Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Region 6 advisory on their official Facebook page, the cancelled flights as of 12 noon, Thursday, October 24, included:

* Iloilo Airport – Cebu Pacific Air’s fight 5J 457/5J 458 (Manila – Iloilo – Manila) and flight 5J 449/5J 450 (Manila – Iloilo – Manila)

* Bacolod Silay Airport – Cebu Pacific Air’s flight 5J 473/5J 474 (Manila – Bacolod – Manila) and flight 5J 483/5J 484 (Manila – Bacolod – Manila)

Arthur Parreño, CAAP-Iloilo terminal supervisor, said affected passengers at Iloilo Airport were notified about the cancellations on Wednesday, October 23, preventing passenger strandings.

Furthermore, the concerned airlines are sending communications through email or text message to inform passengers of the flight cancellations.

Parreño advised all passengers with scheduled flights, especially those with connecting or international flights, to monitor weather updates and possible advisories from airlines due to potential changes brought by the weather conditions.

“It’s better to monitor the weather condition and advisories and always check their emails because our airlines always email if there are changes in their scheduled flight,” Parreño said in an interview with Panay News.

As of 2 p.m. of Thursday, October 24, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the provinces of Aklan, Capiz, Antique (including Caluya Islands), and Iloilo were still under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.

Other areas under the same signal include Bantayan Islands, Northern Samar, and parts of Samar, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate (including Ticao and Burias Islands)./PN
