ILOILO City β Three flood control projects in the towns of Pavia and San Miguel in the central part of Iloilo have been constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Iloilo Fourth District Engineering Office.
District Engineer Mario Soriano said they have completed the construction of Aganan Flood Control Structure along Jaro-Aganan River in Poblacion, San Miguel, Iloilo; Tigum Flood Control Project along Jaro-Tigum Bridge in Purok 1, Pavia, Iloilo; and another Aganan Flood Control Project along Jaro-Aganan River from Brgy. 9 to Brgy. 14, San Miguel, Iloilo, in the total amount of P93.736 million.
βThe construction of Aganan Flood Control project, in the amount of P32.580 million, funded under FY 2017 Regular Infra, involves construction of flood control structure with the length of 273.15 lineal meters, including earthworks, drainage and slope protection,β Soriano said.
Soriano also said that another flood control structure along Jaro-Aganan River, from Brgy. 9 to Brgy. 14 in San Miguel town, was completed, in the amount of P42.539 million from FY 2017 Regular Infra, which includes earthworks, drainage and slope protection.
In addition, Engr. Cynthia Caigoy said the construction of Tigum Flood Control Project involves construction of 233.8-lineal meter flood control structure, earthworks, drainage and slope protection in the amount of P18.617 million, also funded under FY 2017 Regular Infra.
With these flood control projects, the lives of the people living near these rivers are protected, especially from threatening floods during rainy days. The structures also help prevent erosion of soil that may damage the houses and other properties of the people situated by the river./PN
