ILOILO City – The prices of flowers are increasing as Valentine’s Day draws near.

The high demand for flowers is triggering the price hike, according to flower shop owner Kent Stephen Latumbo.

A stem of red rose costs around P100 while other colored roses sell between P70 to P90 each.

A dozen of arranged red roses, on the other hand, costs between P1,500 and P2,000.

For price-conscious buyers, especially students, flower vendors are prepared to offer budget-friendly options. A bouquet of four red roses is priced between P300 and P500.

Latumbo said his best-sellers are red roses, carnations, stargazers, and the new trend of dried rose bouquets, with prices ranging from P300 to P500.

Latumbo, a flower vendor for almost five years at the Iloilo Central Market, is hopeful for better sales this year after two years of pandemic.

Latumbo said he and his fellow vendors get their flower supplies from Negros Island, Baguio City and Metro Manila./PN
