BACOLOD City – Executive Assistant Ernesto Pineda, cluster head of the Sectoral Concerns, assured that the Bacolod City Public Plaza will be cleared of flower vendors by Nov. 12.
City Administrator John Orola notified the 18 flower vendors earlier, urging in the letter sent to them that they must vacate the plaza on or before Nov. 3.
In an earlier interview, Glen Amar, president of the Bacolod Plaza Flower Vendors Association, they have not vacated the public plaza yet for Ferrero Street because the vendors were not ready.
The stalls provided for them by the city had no electricity and water, Amar added.
However, on Nov. 9, Amar confirmed to the members of the media that they were now preparing for their transfer because electricity had been installed and they’ve been instructed to get their water from the nearby Bacolod Arts Youth and Sports (BAYS) Center.
He said they asked for an extension from the city government to schedule their final transfer on Nov. 11.
The city council expressed a need to relocate the flower vendors to allow the full implementation of the rehabilitation, improvement, and beautification of the Bacolod City Public Plaza – pursuant to the plans designed by the City Engineer’s Office.
Leonardia earlier said he aims to transform the plaza into something wholesome for Bacoleño families to enjoy, following a rehabilitation and improvement plan.
Pineda said the city has provided the vendors stalls with a uniform area of 2 ½ meters by 3 meters each.
He added that the flower vendors have asked the city to officially award to them the stalls so that they can secure a business permit./PN
