MANILA – Choco Mucho Flying Titans battled back from a set down to defeat PLDT High Speed Hitters, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-18, in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference on Thursday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Cherry Ann Rondina finished with 20 points, built on 19 attacks and a service ace, to be named Player of the Game as the Flying Titans recorded their third consecutive win for a 5-3 win-loss slate.
Aleona Denise Manabat added 16 markers, with 15 coming from attacks, while Cherry Nunag and Maria Lina Molde contributed 12 markers apiece for the streaking Flying Titans.
“Winork lang namin kung ano ‘yung naging pagkukulang namin dun sa previous game namin, wala kaming ibang inisip kundi ilabas ‘yung pinagtrainingan namin,” Rondina said.
“Kanya-kanya kaming trabaho sa team and, thankfully, lumabas sa laro na ito ang lahat ng pinaghirapan namin and may magandang resulta,” added the former University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses standout.
Savannah Davison was the lone double-digit scorer for the High Speed Hitters with 27 points, including 25 attacks and two blocks, as they dropped to a 4-3 record.
Meanwhile, Negrense Christine Joy Soyud made her presence felt as Akari Power Chargers scored a 21-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-18 victory over sister team NxLed Chameleons.
The former Adamson University Lady Falcons standout finished with 15 points, including six blocks, as the Power Chargers returned to their winning ways for a 4-4 win-loss slate.
“Ginagampanan ko lang ‘yung role na ibinibigay sa akin ni coach Taka, siyempre grinab ko lang ‘yung opportunity para makatulong sa team,” Soyud said in a post-game interview.
Ivy Lacsina led the way for the Power Chargers with 17 points, including 14 attacks, two service aces, and a block, while Faith Nisperos and Camille Victoria contributed 15 and 10 markers, respectively./PN
