
MANILA – Choco Mucho Flying Titans cruised to their second straight win in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference after a 25-20, 26-24, 26-28, 25-9 victory against the Capital1 Solar Energy Solar Spikers on Thursday at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan.
Cherry Ann Rondina spearheaded the offense with 23 points, including four blocks, to earn the Player of the Game honors as the Flying Titans improved to a 2-1 record in the standings.
Honey Royse Tubino added 12 points, while Dindin Santiago-Manabat finished with 11 markers, while Cherry Nunag, Isa Molde, and Kat Tolentino contributed with eight, seven and six points, respectively, for Choco Mucho.
After failing to close out the Solar Spikers in the third set, the Flying Titans responded with a 12-3 scoring blast to start the fourth set on their way to finishing off their opponent in dominant fashion.
“We strengthened our reception in the fourth set, and my teammates really stepped up,” Rondina said in a post-game interview. “There’s still a lot we need to improve and work on. We’ll continue to grind.”
Leila Cruz tallied 16 points but struggled with multiple hitting errors. Jorelle Singh and Heather Guino-O chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively, as the Solar Spikers dropped to 0-2.
Meanwhile, Cignal HD Spikers overcame a second set defeat to topple Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21, and remained undefeated in two matches.
Libero Dawn Macandili-Catindig showcased her defensive prowess, recording 23 excellent digs and six receptions to earn the Best Player of the Game honors for the HD Spikers.
“It’s a very important win for us. This victory will definitely boost the team’s confidence and serve as a big morale booster as we head into our upcoming games,” said Macandili-Catindig in a post-game interview.
“This is exactly what we practice during training – embracing the pressure and staying composed. When the match gets tight, we need to learn how to finish the set in our favor,” Macandili-Catindig said./PN
