BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia wants Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, new city police officer-in-charge, to focus on illegal drugs.

That is the thrust of the Duterte administration, Leonardia said, adding that he also wants Bacolod to be drug-free.

“I hope Wanky is the man for that,” the mayor said. “The taste of the pudding is in the eating. We will wait. … Overall, we want peace and order.”

Wanky replaced Senior Superintendent Flynn Dongbo, who got flak from local government and business organization officials as the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) struggled to solve several recent crimes.

Dongbo was reassigned to the Police Regional Office 18’s (PRO-18) Regional Personnel Housing Accounting Unit.

Leonardia wants Wanky to assimilate the culture in the city. “I want him to be conscious of the behavior of our people so he can adjust.”

He also sought help from the press in monitoring the performance of the local police.

Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, regional police director, recommended Wanky.

“To make the city a peaceful and healthy place, I need you to help me,” Wanky said during the turnover of command ceremony at the BCPO headquarters Friday last week. “I alone cannot make this happen.”/PN
