BACOLOD City – The three-day World Food Expo (Wofex) will start 10 a.m. today at the SMX Convention Center at the Reclamation Area.
Councilor Cindy Rojas will attend the opening program in behalf of Mayor EvelioLeonardia.
Rojas, along with City Administrative John Orola and councilors EmAng and BartolomeOrola, welcomed Wofex president John Pascual at the Office of the Mayor yesterday.
Today’s food expo is the seconf event of its kind held in the city, according to Rojas. The first one was held in 2016.
“This year’s expo is bigger and will feature more suppliers. There will be a ‘WofexUniversity’ wherein they (organizers) will conduct a series of trainings in baking and catering,” Rojas added.
There will be 10 chefs and resource persons for the trainings.
Moreover, there are about 50 exhibitors participating in the expo.
The expo aims to bring suppliers to Bacolod City, known for its organic food advocacy.
“Bacolod’s food industry will benefit the most because instead of going to Manila to source suppliers, the suppliers are the ones coming here,” Rojas said.
She added that suppliers are seeing potential growth of food businesses in the city.
The food expo is one of the activities for the year-long celebration of the city’s 80th anniversary./PN
