KALIBO, Aklan — The 19th Kalibo Food and Music Festival will be held starting today until June 23.

The celebration that features local cuisine and music is in honor of the town’s patron saint, John the Baptist.

It will be a gastronomic extravaganza of food and drinks from local restaurants and bars, paired with good sound courtesy of bands and disk jockeys.

To be held at Kalibo Magsaysay Park, the event will be open from 5 p.m. onwards.

The weeklong event is an opportunity to showcase well-loved traditional cuisines, beverage and music before tourists and locals alike.

It is being organized by the municipal government in collaboration with the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Tourism Council.

The event began in 1995 as “Kalibo Food Festival sa Kalye” along S. Martelino Street, just across Kalibo Pastrana Park.

It was transferred to Kalibo Magsaysay Park in 2009 after typhoon “Frank” devastated the capital town in June 2008.

The event has been later renamed Kalibo Food and Music Festival.

Among the participating restaurants and bars this year were Arte, Kusina sa Kalibo, Hernani’s Mix and Match, Toto’s Bar, Sparks Café, Bagobos Bar and Resto, Lorraine’s Tapsi, Piel Crepes, Trims Food Products, Calai’s Choices, Nino’s Ihaw-Ihaw Restaurant, Jad’s Pizzalicious, Joy’s Food Stuff and Judith’s Pension.

Over the years, the theme-inspired festival has grown into one of the well-known food festivals in the region. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
