GUIMARAS – At least 103 students from Guimaras State University-Buenavista campus reportedly suffered from food poisoning after eating spaghetti on Friday, November 15.
The students were participating in the Business Innovators’ Zone Convention 2.0, which started on November 13 and was set to run until Saturday, November 16.
According to Colonel Rhea Santos, director of the Guimaras Police Provincial Office, an initial report indicated that the university had planned an activity that day. However, it was canceled after students complained of severe abdominal pain and diarrhea.
The affected students, all from the College of Business and Management, began experiencing symptoms around 1 p.m. after consuming the spaghetti, which was served at 12:30 p.m.
In response, the Guimaras State University assured the public that they are providing assistance to the affected students. In an official statement, the university clarified that the spaghetti was prepared by an external caterer, not by the school.
The university also stated that the affected students were being closely monitored as of this writing. It also urged others experiencing similar symptoms to seek medical attention immediately./PN
