Football comeback thrills Bahadoran

Former Philippine Azkals midfielder Misagh Bahadoran is more than thrilled with his comeback to competitive football after swearing his services to Global Football Club ahead of the 2020 Philippine Football League (PFL) season.

The Filipino-Iranian winger will finally embrace again the atmosphere of professional football after almost two years of inactivity. Bahadoran’s last stint was with Perak Football Association in Malaysia.

“Due to several serious injuries, I thought about quitting football and focusing on my business. But I couldn’t find that happiness and joy that football gave me, so I would like to thank Global for welcoming me back,” Bahadoran said.

Bahadoran, 33, played a huge role in Global’s three United Football League (replaced by PFL) championships before he decided to offer his talents in Malaysia.

Bahadoran and several new players will banner Global, which is on a bid to return to its glory days following the entry of Hong Kong-based consortium Manzinyi Management Ltd.

The other fresh recruits who will play for the team are John Cofie, Jose Villareal, Alan Martin, Sulemaan Naeem, Jordan Jarvis, Andreas Esswein, Ziggy Ae, Nico Quintana, Ryan Jarvis, and former Kaya FC-Iloilo player Yannick Tuason.

Negrense Jerry Barbaso – longest-tenured player in the club – is also returning for another year, while former Filipino international Dominic del Rosario also signed with the team last month.

The Volleyball Community Gives Back (VCGBPH) has initiated a fund drive for game day personnel who were affected by the suspension and cancellation of different volleyball leagues in the country due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Recently, former Ateneo Lady Eagles volleybelles Charo Soriano, Alyssa Valdez, Dzi Gervacio, and Gretchen Ho reached out to a group of volleyball referees, ball retrievers and bouncers.

“With the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine, daily wage earners have found themselves struggling to earn a living. Earning livelihood has been one of the greatest uncertainties that a lot of our countrymen have been worrying about. Some of these daily wage earners hit closer to home for the volleyball community,” the VCGBPH said.

In the spirit of bayanihan, VCGBPH is rolling out ‘#CARINGFORALL: Down The Line, We Are One’ to provide assistance for the sport’s paid-per-day staff.

Among those who did not hesitate to give more than what they have is Rebisco, which already sent goodies to the volleyball game day crew.

Donations can be sent to Ryan Sordan through BPI bank account: 8069 0632 77.
“We are humbly asking for support in assisting our volleyball heroes behind the game, who are in need of our help. Any amount will be of help to get us through this crisis,” said VCGBPH.

The VCGBPH also has an ongoing project, which is ‘#ServeOurFrontliners: RAFFLES FOR HEROES.’ It is another fund drive that aims to produce and provide personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical frontliners battling COVID-19. The group has already donated 310 PPE to Sultan Kudarat in Mindanao.
