ILOILO – A forest fire broke out in a portion of Mount Panay in Barangay Dalije, Miagao, Iloilo.
The blaze, reportedly spotted around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, reached “first alarm” status.
It affected around 3.5 hectares and 200 square meters of land, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Fire Officer 1 Lea Mae T. Gilos said it was around 11 p.m. when they received information about the incident.
Gilos explained that firefighting efforts, together with the Municipal Disaster Rish Reduction and Management Office, were impeded by mountainous terrain.
She added that it took them some time before they were able to locate where the fire was raging, as firetrucks could not easily penetrate the area.
The blaze was successfully put out around 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 22.
The investigation by BFP-Miagao into the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
Here, Gilos reminded everyone to be extra vigilant.
“Indi lang magdabok nga indi mabantayan, kung magdabok man bantayan gid ini kag patyon dayun para indi na pagtunaan sang halit,” Gilos told Panay News./PN
