BACOLOD City – A retired Philippine Army officer was arrested on suspicion that he was illegally trafficking firearms.
Police caught Harold Villafranca Amar in Barangay Linao, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental in an entrapment operation.
Amar sold firearms and ammunition to undercover police for P3,000 at around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, said Superintendent Jonel Guadalupe, Kabankanlan police head.
The items included a “government-model” Colt .45 pistol, a chamber loaded with a .45 bullet and a magazine with five .45 bullets.
Police further seized from him a .9mm Black Widow revolver loaded with five bullets, a black mobile phone, and a pink Yamaha Mio i 125 motorcycle.
Amar, a 55-year-old resident of Barangay Su-ay, Himamaylan City, was detained at the Kabankalan City police station.
He faces charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, police said.
Chief Inspector John Ganzon, Kabankalan deputy police head, and Chief Inspector Gil John Despi, commander of the 604th Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6, led the entrapment./PN
