Former congressman Alberto Lopez, 86

ILOILO City – Former congressman Alberto Lopez of Iloilo’s 2nd District has died of a lingering illness in Metro Manila. He was 86.

Lopez represented the 2nd District in the Lower House for three consecutive terms: 1987-1992, 1992-1995 and 1995-1998.

He died on Sunday, April 7, confirmed Dr. Ofelia Garfin, former regional director of the Department of Health in Region 6 and chairwoman of Taos Puso Foundation, Inc. whom Lopez supported through several decades.

As of this writing, Lopez’s remains lie in state at Santuario de San Antonio in Forbes Park, Makati City.

The family has yet to release the complete details of the interment.

Lopez is survived by wife Emily Relucio Lopez, former governor and congresswoman of Guimaras, and children Tito and Celine.
