MANILA – Foton Tornadoes got back on the winning track in the 2019 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix after clobbering Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors, 12-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-15, on Tuesday night at San Juan Arena.
Spanish import Milagros Collar finished with 15 points while Jaja Santiago and Carmina Aganon had 13 and 12 markers, respectively, for the Tornadoes, which snapped its 11-game slide to improve to 2-11 mark.
Just like in their previous games, the Tornadoes started flat after giving up 10 aces in the first set. But their offense finally fell into place in the following three sets to drub the struggling Lady Realtors.
“I hope that this will serve as a morale booster for the team, we’ve been from a very tough situation and we have no one to count on to but ourselves,” said Foton coach Aaron Velez.
He added: “Honestly, we’re still struggling, it was very evident in the game, still I am optimistic that we can start from this one. A win is a win; however, mahaba ang losing streak so ‘yung pagdududa nandoon pa rin.”
Rachel Austero and Casey Schoenlein had 12 points each while Molly Lohman had 11 markers for the Lady Realtors, which fell to eighth place and will likely face defending champions Petron Blaze Spikers in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, F2 Logistics Cargo Movers sealed the no. 2 spot heading into the quarterfinals following a 25-12, 25-27, 26-24, 25-14 victory over the Generika-Ayala Lifesavers.
Maria Jose Perez top-scored with 25 points, while Lindsay Stalzer and Abigail Marano had 16 and 14 markers, respectively, for the Cargo Movers (10-3). Som Kuthaisong had 22 markers for the Lifesavers (4-9)./PN
