Four arrested for illegal fishing in Panay waters

CAPIZ – Four fishermen were apprehended for engaging in illegal fishing activities in the waters off the coast of the municipality of Panay.

The apprehended individuals, identified as “Ricardo”, “Jemrick, “Aladin”, and “Domante”, are residents of Carles, Iloilo.

Members of the Philippine Coast Guard, Panay police, and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) were conducting a routine seaborne patrol at about 9:20 a.m. on Feb. 15, when they caught the arrested persons in the act of engaging in “PAMO” fishing, which is a violation of Municipal Ordinance No. 03-02, Series of 2003.

During the arrest, three pump boats, 10 kilograms of fish, one engine unit, and fishing paraphernalia were seized. The confiscated items were valued at over P620,800.

At present, the fishing paraphernalia are under the custody of MENRO-Panay for proper disposition./PN
